New Business. New Channel.

An LLC allows business owners to avoid double taxation by filing business income on their individual tax return, while also providing limited liability. This entity also allows you official business status in your state without adherence to rigid corporate regulations. You can establish a small business and enjoy its advantages without the high costs of creating a corporation.

I don’t know where to start. A lot has happened this week. I guess the most exciting thing for me is that I formed a Limited Liability Company, Flarecorp Media Productions LLC. You can even look it up! https://www.nebraska.gov/sos/corp/corpsearch.cgi

I’ve struggled for a while to discern where my personal hobby stopped and my intentions to run it as a business started. I intend to migrate all of my YouTube channels to operate under the LLC, which should help rectify that confusion. I’ll either do work for the business or myself, but it can’t span both. I’m still working out the organization, but I got the big hurdle done.

Filming a Series Pilot

On Tuesday, I recorded a pilot video for a new channel I’m working on called My Day As… where I job shadow various occupations letting viewers see what it’s like to work in that field or industry. If you’ve seen my Soybean Farmer video over on Flarecorp Media, you’ll have an idea of what this new channel will be about.

For this pilot episode, I spent my day as an Optician & Paraoptometric Technician with the fine folks over at Definitive Vision in Omaha. I have to give a presentation of it in 10 days as of the writing of this blog, so my next week will be full of editing.

CFexpress Cards are FAST

I ended up recording over 500 gigabytes of footage while recording the pilot. It was spread across multiple cameras, but the bulk of the files came from my Fujifilm H2 camera recording 4kHQ h.265 4:2:0 10bit at 360Mbps. Those are relatively modest settings compared to what it’s capable of, but I still ended up with 394 gigs from this camera alone.

Do you know how long it takes to copy that off of a CFexpress Card using the little hack I showed in this video?

I don’t either because my SD card is only 256 Gigs, so I couldn’t copy it all over at once anyway, but I trust it would have taken hours.

I also played around with some new photo software this week that I picked up on Black Friday, Luminar Neo and Topaz AI, but I haven’t spent enough time with it to give a proper evaluation. Hopefully, I’ll get time to tell you more in a future blog.

Next week’s blog will likely be about my adventures in editing.
